On this website you will find more detailed
information about me and my family. There are link bars at the top and
bottom of most pages. On this page there is also a series of links to
the left of this text. This page is all about my Bell Ringing and
contains plenty of really boring stuff. If you want to know about me and
the family then please go to this page. If you would like to leave me a message then please feel free to sign my guestbook. You can also see what other people have said. |
Who is Archibald?OK, so lets start with a simple one. Archibald was my Christmas present in 1998. He is a LEGO MindStorms Robotics Invention System. This comprises a programmable controller known as the RCX. The RCX, mine is called Archibald, is a microcomputer that can be programmed from a Personal Computer using Visual Basic or LEGO's own MindStorms programming environment. Programs are "downloaded" to Archibald via a infra-red communications link.
| To interact with the outside world Archibald has three
output ports which can power motors or lights, and three input port to
which I can connect touch switches or light sensors.
The kit includes 727 LEGO pieces plus two motors, two touch sensors and one light sensor. Also included is the LEGO Constructopedia which provides details of 6 simple constructions ideas.
What have I built?Well to be completely honest not very much. I have built the 6 projects from the Constructopedia and have modified one of these, Pathfinder 1, to detect and follow a light source. The results of the experiment where quite spectacular - IT WORKED FIRST TIME!
| One thing the Constructopedia tells you is that there is no
right way or wrong way. Your way is as good as any other way.
